Our Rugby Tournaments
Entering its fifth year in 2005, the annual Romagna
7s tournament promises to light up the seaside town of Lido di Savio during
the last weekend in May.
The tournament draws teams from all over Europe and the UK for a social
tournament and a couple of huge nights out in official tournament bars. And as
for the silverware on offer, you've got to see it to believe it - you might need
to book an extra seat on the plane home as there may not be enough room in the
hold for your trophy.
ADULT FIFTEENS in Rimini
If it's XVs rugby
you're after, the Fichinghi
Easter Cup may be just what you're looking for. Hosted by Forli' based
rugby club, I Fichinghi, the Easter Cup is billed as a social event and has
attracted plenty of interest from British clubs in the last few years. The
I Fichinghi team organise a one-day tournament and a huge party at local 'rugby
pub' The White Horse that lasts into the wee hours.
Add to this a friendly fixture, a couple of nights out in Rimini and spare time
for activities like karting or a tax-free shopping trip to the Republic of San
Marino and you have a fantastic Easter weekend touring option.
JUNIOR RUGBY in Rimini
Schoolboy sides should also keep Rimini on their list of potential touring
destinations.
Junior club sides in the area are always keen to host British sides and SET
Sports Tours is planning the inaugural Italian Schools Rugby Festival
to take
place in February 2005. It will pit British sides against each other and
specially invited local sides and will take place from February 14-18.
JUNIOR RUGBY in Parma
Officially sanctioned by the Italian Rugby
Federation, the
Amatori Festival takes place in the Parma region each Easter and is an
excellent chance for junior players to get away on tour.
The
tournament itself is confined to one day, with eight teams invited to take part
in each age group. Teams are guaranteed three matches and will play finals if
they qualify. A day of cultural tours and sightseeing is also built into the
itinerary so this tournament offers far more than just the rugby. | |
